Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite required; Buffalo, NY)
Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 6-month contract (40 hours/week; 1,040 hours) strong likelihood of extension up to 18 months, with possibility of hire
Engagement Type: W-2 only. No sponsorships, Corp-to-Corp, or 1099 arrangements permitted.

Overview:

The Senior Scrum Master provides servant-leadership, coaching, and high-impact Agile delivery support to multiple cross-functional teams within the Finance Technology Agile Release Train (ART), which is currently in early build-out. This individual will be the second Scrum Master hired into the ART and must be able to operate independently onsite in Buffalo without frequent escalation or oversight from the Wilmington-based leader.

This role requires someone who goes beyond ceremony facilitation, bringing deep Agile expertise and the ability to transform team performance, resolve conflict, and accelerate delivery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies and provide coaching using frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and XP.
• Cultivate a culture of self-organization, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement across assigned teams.
• Own impediment removal and shield teams from distractions without excessive escalation.
• Provide strong on-site facilitation, including managing daily stand-ups, navigating team dynamics (wrangling the cats), and maintaining healthy conflict resolution.
• Partner with Product Owners and Technology leadership to drive throughput, predictability, and cycle-time improvement.
• Visualize work and risks using Jira/Confluence and other information radiators.
• Mentor less-experienced Scrum Masters and contribute to Agile communities of practice across the ART.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, audit standards, and risk/regulatory expectations.

Role Requirements & Profile Fit:

• Minimum 2 years Scrum Master experience and 4+ years on Agile teams, or equivalent work/education combination.
• 58+ total years of Scrum Master or Agile delivery experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success supporting 23 delivery teams simultaneously within a Scaled Agile / SAFe environment.
• Must be able to operate independently onsite in Buffalo without requiring daily guidance.
• Jira and Confluence required; other PM tools acceptable but not used by the bank.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills both virtual and in-person required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• SAFe or Scrum Alliance certification (either accepted).
• Stability across roles not a pattern of one-year stints across multiple organizations.
• Prior experience in high-maturity Agile environments such as JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Truist, SEI, etc.
• Background in transforming underperforming or newly formed teams.

Team Structure:

• Supports 2 teams minimum: possibility of 3 across an business unit of approximately 1011 total teams.
